One area that people are debating whether they can point fingers at 2020 or not is marketing. Business owners have had a challenging year and keeping their doors open has been their top priority rather than any goals of expansion, upgrades, new ventures and enhanced capabilities that were there in the beginning of the year.
This Year can certainly be blamed for Marketing Fail and poor sales numbers. But one mistake many business owners are going to make is misreading the effectiveness of their marketing efforts and how they were influenced by the pandemic and other challenges the year brought on. Was it your marketing efforts or was it the year? That’s going to be a tough call but it’s important to make the proper judgement if you want to be succeed in the new year.
Did Your Marketing Fail This Year Or Was It 2020?
For example, you created a commercial and ran the ad on Facebook offering a buy 1 get 1 free promotion. You targeted the only consumers who would be interested and you had a solid budget so it’s either the pandemic or the content. This conflict creates a perfect example of how the stats need to be reviewed monthly and compared to the previous year and other campaigns.
If previous campaigns using similar content and promotions were extremely successful and this year you saw a significant drop in sales it could be the pandemic. However, a drop in engagement could be a product of both poor content and a possible lack of interest by consumers because they can’t make their usual purchases. Gather as much data as you can before you start to create a theory and use the information to create a strategy for 2021.
